Top gastronomical events in autumn

Would you like to have the unforgettable experience of the nature's autumn colors and spice it up with the top gastronomical delights? The best part of the year in Istria is yet to come in October and November.
We have prepared the top gastronomical events which will make your holiday even more interesting.

The white and the black truffles have their natural habitat in the Istrian truffle triangle between Pazin, Buje and Buzet, especially in the valley of the river Mirna and in the Motovun Forest. Events dedicated to truffle will be held in October and November so make sure that you visit the Truffle days in Istria.

The small towns in Istria offer interesting events to which everyone is invited. By visiting Kestenijada (Chestnut Festivity) in Oprtalj-Portole you can taste food and pastries made of chestnut. Fešta od fruti, the traditional festival of fruits and fruit products will take place in Kaldir, a small place situated near Motovun.

If you like mushrooms, don't miss the gastronomical delight which will take place at waterfront in Fažana or you can visit the events dedicated to autumn's forest delicacy if you find yourselves near Novigrad or Brtonigla.

The International Prosciutto Fair will be held in October near Tinjan. Since long ago the home-made Istrian prosciutto has been the most valuable product and the one the Istrian gastronomic offer has been most proud of.

The north-western restaurants in Istria organize the Sole fish days which will be held during the October and November. There will be a creative menus based on sole- flatfish, the quality white fish which goes well in a combination with the wine and olive oil.

The New Wine Festivity will be held in the town of Svetvinčenat which is situated in the heart of Istria. Through stories, tastes, scents, and colours, you can enjoy the best wines offered on stands-barrels near the Grimani Palace.

Traditional exhibition of Istrian Grappa (brandy) is organized in Hum, the smallest town in the world. The event is dedicated to the type of brandy which is most often made from grape marc into which aromatic and medicinal herbs or different fruit are added.

A New Olive Oil Days will take place in Vodnjan. Enjoy in distinctive new olive oil taste and attend the numerous guided tastings and lectures on this topic. Try the delicacies which match perfectly with the new olive oil and join the cooking presentation.

The Polenta Festival is organized in Poreč. It's a celebration of the feast of St. Maurus, the patron of the town. Deceptively plain food of our ancestors and good Istrian wines will offer you an unforgettable gastronomic experience.
